Background

As one of Houston’s oldest social service agencies, Sheltering Arms Senior Services has a long tradition of caring for the elderly.

In 1893, Christ Church Cathedral founded Sheltering Arms as a residence for elderly women. In the 1950s, the organization began providing services that enable seniors to live fuller, more independent lives in their own homes. The agency opened its services to all segments of the senior population.

Today Sheltering Arms Senior Services provides the most comprehensive array of services for seniors and their family caregivers in the Houston area. Its mission is to promote the dignity and independence of older adults through service, advocacy and support for caregivers.
