SHELTERING ARMS SHOUTS OUT FOR TURKEY CALLERS AT ANNUAL CONTEST HELD AT THE HOUSTON ZOO

HOUSTON (October 19, 2009) . . . Calling all vocal chords!  If you look like a turkey or at least talk like one, join the flock at the “Sheltering Arms Turkey Calling Contest” scheduled for noon Saturday, November 21 at the Houston Zoo, 6200 Golf Course Drive in Hermann Park.

Houston area contestants can ruffle some feathers and strut their stuff as they vie for the coveted crown of No. 1 Turkey (caller) by imitating their best-of-breed bird.  The contest takes place in the Houston Zoo’s John P. McGovern Children’s Zoo.

Open to all ages, contestants will be judged on vocal calls and their strutting ability.  Prizes to be awarded in three categories:  kids (ages 12 and under), adults (ages 13+), and group (no more than 3 people) or parent/child combinations.  Talented winners receive free entry for a family of four in the Sheltering Arms Turkey Trot and the coveted Top Turkey Crown.

While at the Zoo, participants can pick up registration information for the Sheltering Arms Turkey Trot scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday, November 26 at Uptown Park.  Entry fees go directly to Sheltering Arms Senior Services to further the mission to promote the dignity and independence of older adults through service, advocacy and support for caregivers.

For more information about the Sheltering Arms Turkey Trot or the Sheltering Arms Turkey Calling Contest, visit www.shelteringarms.org or call 713-685-6524.
