Contribute to Sheltering Arms’ Emergency Food Pantry
Many of Sheltering Arms' elderly clients have suffered serious hardships due to Hurricane Ike and are struggling. Power outages have caused food to spoil, and because many elderly are homebound and on fixed incomes, replacing food and other basic necessities is extremely difficult.
We are mobilizing staff and volunteers to take groceries and household supplies to these seniors as quickly as possible.
Pantry needs include:
- Canned Vegetables: Corn, Peas, Green Beans, Potatoes, Sweet Potatoes, beans, Mixed Vegetables, etc. (low sodium when possible)
- Canned Meats: Tuna, chicken, etc.
- Canned Meals: Pasta, stews, etc.
- Canned/jars: Fruit, applesauce
- Canned soups
- Macaroni and cheese
- Juices
- Cereals: Instant and 3-minute oatmeal, grits
- Canned milk
- Oil
- Pasta, rice and beans
- Peanut butter
- Jelly
- Crackers
- Ensure or Boost nutritional supplements
- Glucerna (for diabetics) nutritional supplements
- Cleaning and laundry supplies: detergent, cleaners, sponges
- Paper products: Toilet paper, paper towels, napkins
- Personal care products: Soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.
- Trash bags and baggies
- Grocery gift cards (to purchase fresh food, and some medications)
- Batteries
- Emergency lights (battery-powered) and flashlights
Please bring items to Sheltering Arms Senior Sergvices headquarters at 3838 Aberdeen Way, Houston Texas 77025. Map and driving directions.
