A Lifeline Story

From the daughter of a Sheltering Arms Lifeline user:

Dear Lifeline:

It isn't often one can write, "you are a lifesaver" and mean it literally. But in your case, it is true. Twice your service saved my mother's life, and I, and my family, will be forever grateful.

It was my idea to get Lifeline hooked up in my mother's home. At 87, she still wanted her independence. The family wanted peace of mind that she could reach someone in an emergency. And that emergency happened twice. The first time at about 3 a.m. in a deep sleep, my mother got up out of bed and fell, hitting her head on the sharp edge of the dresser. Lying on the floor and bleeding severely from a head wound, she was unable to reach the telephone to call for help. But she had on her Lifeline necklace and finally thought to push the button, Lifeline called her neighbor, who came over and then called the ambulance. There is no question my mother would have bled to death if she did not have Lifeline.

The second incident occurred after we moved her to independent living. Again, in a groggy condition she went to use the bathroom and fell asleep on the toilet, She fell and cut her head on the bathtub. She pulled the emergency cord in the bathroom and crawled back to her bedroom where her Lifeline necklace was. She pushed the button and immediately a Lifeline operator called out to her. My mother barely coherent at this point, yelled she needed help. The operator called the facility which sent over a nurse who called an ambulance. All agreed that again, she would have bled to death without Lifeline.

So thank you, thank you Lifeline.

My mother recently passed away, and I always promised her I would write this letter to you. So thank you again, and feel free to use this as a testimonial for how wonderful your service is.

Sincerely,
D. K. for my mother, B. B.
