Hurricane crisis kits

With what is expected to be one of the worst hurricane seasons approaching, many Houston area seniors will be left isolated at home without any transportation or a sufficient amount of income to purchase the items necessary to endure the harsh conditions of a hurricane. 

Due to these unfortunate circumstances, Sheltering Arms is planning to administer hurricane kits to low income senior citizens throughout the greater Houston area.  You can help us make a difference by contributing supplies or monetary donations to our 2010 Hurricane Kit Drive.  Contributors are asked to collect dry food, water, and paper goods that will be assembled into kits and distributed to those in need.  Volunteers are also needed to assist with delivering these kits to the home of a senior in need. Each Hurricane Crisis Kit will contain essentials such as flashlights, batteries, 72 hours worth of dry food, personal items, and other necessary items. If you would like to sponsor a senior in need with a Hurricane Kit, a donation of $40 will provide them with the items they need to be prepared in case of an emergency.

Items collected may be dropped off at the front desk of Sheltering Arms Senior Services, located at 3838 Aberdeen Way, Houston, Texas 77025.  Collections for the drive will be taken from Monday-Friday between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., until August 2nd, 2010.
