Interested in a rewarding, fun, and worthwhile team building experience?

Consider forming a volunteer home repair group at your company, school, or other organization.

Sheltering Arms Home Repair Program helps low-income, senior homeowners with home maintenance and repairs. These repairs would typically not be possible without volunteer assistance due to physical limitations and/or financial constraints. We welcome volunteer groups, skilled and unskilled, young and old, to participate in our program.

Sheltering Arms currently has a backlog of applicants in need of all types of home repair services such as yard clean-up, painting, carpentry, wheelchair ramp construction, and many more. Since our home repairs are offered to elderly homeowners free of charge, the need for donations of materials and labor, or funding to provide these services is ongoing.

Typically, volunteer groups agree to work a single day, tackling only those tasks they believe can be completed in that period of time. Each group is asked to designate a Project Leader that will be responsible for selecting and planning the home repair project. Following the completion of the project, an inspector is available to assess the quality of the work to ensure the senior will remain in safe living conditions.

Sheltering Arms Senior Services currently has very limited funding to provide materials for home repair projects. If you can't participate in a home repair project, consider collecting donations for materials and supplies. A team of dedicated ExxonMobil Volunteers work hard to improve the appearance of an elderly client's home. Their efforts have provided the client with a new garden, a debris-free lawn, a lattice skirting to keep animals out, and a clean, pressure-washed exterior of her home.
